This is the first panel of an old Connie Radar comic strip I failed to finish, one of many. This one from 2007, was intended to be a 100 page graphic novel and I stopped on page 2. What may be a smarted idea would be to make a book of aborted comics, I have more than enough pages of those. I'll get around to scanning the full pages to this comic soon.

I've started on a new short film which I'll post about from time to time. So far the script (which is nothing more than a list of sequences) is written and I'm in the middle of storyboarding and character design. I'm expecting it to be about two minutes total length and should take me about a year to complete depending how much 'real' work gets in the way.
Here's some concept art for one of the main characters, a little thug...

At the moment he's still a generic stock character, I'm pretty sure he'll evolve into something very different by the time it's animated, looks a little too Happy Tree Friends crossed with the Big Boy Burgers mascot. Anyway, the main inspiration comes from this video I remember seeing when I was about 13, it's still awesome...

I haven't posted in some time but I'll try to get back into doing so.
The Underworld cartoons are almost done, I'm still working on the last one for this batch, should be done in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile Fot and Angus are doing well over on Mondomedia's channel, we're hoping it does well enough to enable us to create more. And another animation project is underway but more about that one next time...

I did this while waiting for Alex to finish up in a meeting, he kept me waiting for almost 45 minutes (so inconsiderate) so I went and had lunch without him, lucky for him he knew where I like to eat so he turned up after my first sip of coffee. I started on one head and just repeated it seeing the way each came out slightly different.

Time Machine

Finished this today... an authentic working time machine (or "clock" as some people like to call them). Still working out some of the bugs, the hands seem to get locked up sometimes, and I have to swot it ever now and then to restart the seconds hand, but apart from that, works like a treat. I'll post a few more of the details soon, the face is a timeline of the universe from big bang to the big rip (one of my favourite ideas proposed for the end of everything), 35 billion years divided up into 12 hours. If they prove popular I'll try and make more to sell.

This is the back cover to the second book, long way from being published. I'd also consider it a first draft. It's almost unreadable but the small print at the very bottom reads No Refunds. It is CRSR Laboratories policy that all ex-research animals are sold "as is".

New Jessica Tattoo Discovered

On my recent trip to Wellington I was pleased to discover someone with this Jessica of the Schoolyard tattoo, he'd never read the comic but a friend of his had the image lying around and tattoo gun. The image is originally from an early comic strip that appeared in Lava magazine. I'll post it if I can find it.

This is the SECOND animated Fot that has been edited into shorter versions (this being part 3 of #2, all of #1 is HERE and parts 1 and 2 of #2 can be found HERE). For those not familiar with FOT, it's an animated short by Alex Dron and voice by Rhys Darby, I helped out with the writing and made the odd suggestion here and there.
New episodes are looking likely for an upcoming sketch comedy show called RadiRadiRah.

Hotwire #3 comic anthology from Fantagraphics will be out in February, I've got a 2 page Connie Radar comic inside (with colouring assistance by Shoo). As with previous issues, there will be an exhibition at the Scott Eder gallery in Dumbo; a signing party at the comic store Desert Island in Williamsburg and a live comic show at MOCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art), lower Broadway, NYC. If time and money permits, I'll be at all three.

I was asked to photograph a kickboxing event on Saturday at the ABA stadium in Auckland, here's my favourite pic from the evening. This was taken towards the end of the second round, he was beaten to exhaustion and was obvious (even to him) he wouldn't last the next round...

You may have seen these Ford posters around town, I drew the artwork for The Craftshop who made them colourful and super slick. I didn't know much about Roy Lichtenstein before (other than he swipes comic book panels and turns them into 'high' art) but after studying some of the source books for reference, the guy was really onto something,I'm now a fan. I also saw the adverts in Time magazine this morning so from now on I'll be saying "I was in Time Magazine", sorry in advance.
